  • i dont think the mortgage payments are so straight forward. if you are on cb but live on your own or there is no other money coming into the house you still qualify for that.
of course those of us who havnt "sat on our bums for 5 years and get everything" arent always entitled to it anyway, because for all that time plus 11 year before that i paid mortgage protection insurance every month to cover me for if something happened, rather than leaving the state to bale me out for the first 12 months at least.

why do people have to be nasty to those in a differant benefit position that them? believe me on ir esa theres still no money left at the end of the week, although theres often week left at the end of the money.

I apologise if that's how it came over but it wasn't intended that way.

But I would point out that if you're on ESA (IR) and you get exactly the same amount in benefit as someone who gets ESA (CB) and you get CWPs and you don't have to pay for prescriptions then, at this moment in time, you are still financially better off.

The people I'm quite happy to be nasty about are the DWP because, in my case, the helpline have been lazy and dishonest and it was only because NASA gave me useful advice (about the ESA3 form) that they were forced to give appropriate information and advice.

  • This is all very interesting, my hubby lost his job end of November and are in receipt of CB ESA and its a struggle to pay for prscriptions, British Gas told me i didnt qualify for lower rates for my gas and electric even though its costing me £60 a week, as for CWP, my grandmother recieved at least 4 payments over the xmas period, They could have made a lot of difference if we had been on IB ESA, i also feel that my husband has paid his contributions for nothing.

But the person on ESA CB could have a partner earning £30k per year, or could have thousands of pounds in the bank - the person on ESA IR won't.

this thread is making my blood boil!
you give your parents 100 pounds a month for rent of a room AND food and pay a third of the bills and you are complaining?
if you didnt live with your parents and got rent paid you would still need to pay for food and all the things the fairies buy such as toilet roll, toothpaste, cleaning equipment, washing up liquid, and the other two thirds of the bills.
how much do you expect to be left with a week with out of your benefit?
the idea is you get enough to live on, not with spending money on top.

If you read my post again you might see things in a different light. The money I give my parents is just for living there - rent. I buy my own food, pay a third of the bills, and the things the tooth fairy according to you should buy - tooth paste, a third of all cleaning equipment. Everything is divided by a third as we all use these things. What I was stating is if I lived alone or shared with others I would still pay for all these things but the £100 would be paid out of ESA. I am not wanting money to live the life of riley on. I wanted presctiptions and dental work - is wanting to see a dentist because I have lost most of a tooth unreasonable?! On Icome related ESA I would get it free. I tried applying for free healthcare due to low income but they wont accept the £100 I pay for living where I do because they say my parents should provide it free but they cant afford to.

I did not state everyone on income esa sat on their bums at all, just said if I had sat on my bum I would be in a better position. I did not say anything personal towards you.

cant your doctor right you out a prescription for a bigger supply of the tablets? this would save money

My drugs include morphine and I attempted suicide using these and am still in a fragile state so they are locked away with my mum administering them but they still wont issue enough to kill me if I get my hands on them. I am currently being assessed as to the way forward.

  • I really know where your coming from bubbles, up until 3 weeks ago we were living off £180 a week, thats for me, hubby and 2 teenage sons.. might sound okay to some people but we have had a good wage coming in for years so lived appropriately, now we are losing about £400 per WEEK..its nigh on impossible to live on this kind of money, considering the price of food, bills etc...we are now on £200 a week for 4 but its still impossible to do it, i have 2 children to send to school and college, which costs £33 a week, on top of £60 for gas and electric so it doesnt leave much for anything else.My husband cant afford to get his medication the doctor gives him...wheras if he`d never worked for years it would have been free...dont care what anyone else thinks, its a bloody disgrace the way the ESA system works...

Did you not read the posts? I don't even have a partner at the moment, let alone one who earns £30K. All the way through this has been about people who would qualify for ESA (IR) except for the fact that they qualify for ESA (CB).

I've pointed out more than once that the DWP told me I was not eligible for free prescriptions etc because I had been awarded ESA (CB) until, with NASA's help, I got them to admit that I was entitled to free prescriptions because I had an underlying entitlement to ESA (IR).

Given the context I think it's understood that I meant that both claimants were in the same financial position.

    So let's spell it out:

2 people, both in exactly the same emotional, sexual and financial position with same number of dependents, living in identical accomodation and wearing pink knickers (have I missed anything)

person 1 has worked PAYE and made NI contributions

person 2 hasn't (for whatever reason)

    both claim ESA

person 1 gets ESA (CB) at £89/week

person 2 gets ESA (IR) at £89/week plus free prescriptions, plus free dental care, plus reduced leisure facilities, plus reduced price music lessons for their child etc etc etc

According to the DWP I was person 1, until with NASA's help I discovered that actually I am person 1 and person 2.

people should have the right to choose contributions based or income based ESA, people should never be penalised for having payed national insurance contributions, currently anyone on IB+DLA is having the age addition removed on top of the never being able to claim disabled premiums but those on ISIB+DLA are immune to the loss and thats not right.
