Credit search

when you open a online savings account ie:Birmingham Midshires easy access internet account to they do a credit search on you as they would for a credit card and if so does it go to a central database as a search on your credit history.

Also i have i credit cards i know longer use how do i cancel them and no they have been removed so as to not effect future credit scoring.

Not sure about Birmingham Midshires, they may do a search that does not show to lenders to confirm your identity, but they will be able to confirm this for you.As for the credit cards if you are not using them and they are not benifiting you in anyway then yes close them. Though if any of them are SBT cards then keep one just in case.

Same here. Don't know about a standard savings account, as there is no real 'risk' to the bank as regards you paying them back for anything, but First Direct and Egg certainly did searches on my file when I opened savings accounts with them.

FD actually then did another search on my file when I got the current account, but I got that search removed (too many searches = a worse outlook for when your file is searched for credit cards, mortgages, loans, etc).

Just ask them, they will be happy to tell you. they have to tell you this anyway before they do the search, so whether they tell you now or at the time of opening the account makes little difference.

    Cheers and take care.

    Hussein.
