The Grant Advisory Service? I am so worried

Hi

I hope that someone can help!

I have just overheard my husband giving a lot of personal information and making an appointment with someone saying that they were from the "Grant Advisory Service".

I have never heard of them and they cold called us about cavity wall installation. I cannot believe that my husband would go along with this.

Has anyone heard of this company? Are they legit? I suspect that they are not and now they have a load of our personal info. I am so worried.

Is the appointment your OH has made for them to come and do a survey?

What personal info has he given them?
    Surely not financial information......

I've had my loft insulated by these people. They'll do the job for free if you're in receipt of certain benefits such as Pension Credit etc ... so they ask about your circumstances to check for eligibility. (But they don't/shouldn't ask about bank details etc.)

Sounds like a business, who may show you how to get the grant, but may cost you more? Be wary of anyone calling themselves an advisory service. You could check with trading standards, they have a trusted trader scheme.

There are a million and one ways to get cheap/free cavity wall (and other) insulation without taking up a cold call offer. You are obviously computer savvy, so I would suggest cancelling the appointment, and if still interested, do some research. There is plenty of info online (lots in these forums) of how to access cheap or free home insulation through avenues you will feel more comfortable with.

    Hi

Thank you all for your kind replies. I haven't replied before, as things here were a bit heated, to say the least.

It isn't like my husband to do something like this and during the last year, my daughter and myself have become concerned about some of his behaviour.

Anyway, I can't cancel the appointment, as he is waiting for a call from them. Of course there was no number available on 1471. I'm not sure what the appointment is for to be honest but if I get to the phone first I will definitely cancel it!

We did have a big row about it, as he did give our names and told them what benefit I have. Which is a very personal thing. I don't usually stand up to him but felt I really needed to on this matter. He eventually understood my position on it. I'm pretty sure that he didn't give any bank details, which is something.

You are right Olias, I am quite capable of finding out about wall insulation but we had never discussed it and therefore was not something that we had acted before this phone call.

Hopefully I am worrying about nothing but thank you all for all your helpful suggestions and support!

Our council has a scheme where those over 60 can get free cavity wall insulation and loft insulation.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
