Tell us Rictus, how did you come to that conclusion?
Are you making a comparison with anything?

Once you have convinced us that "the train is so dear", maybe someone will be able to tell you why.

The Season Ticket Calculator is showing another Season Ticket for your route... at £34.50 per week, £132.50 a month. It apparently has some restrictions and says "ask for details". Might be worth exploring.

 I just looked at how much my journey would cost by train, a season ticket would be for 12 months £3,884! Maybe next year I'll start using the train again

I use a motorcycle for the journey and my running costs including fuel, servicing, deprecation, insurance and parking all come to less than £3,000. And I save a lot of time.

The train to me is very expensive especially if like me the local station is quite far from home so on those cold mornings you are more likely to jump in the car and then be charged £5 a day to park!

My Daily commute, if I do it by car costs approx £15 in petrol the train costs £17.65 (without railcard) £12 with.l

When you factor insurance, wear and tear on the car etc even without the railcard the train would be the cheapest solution (that said, it takes a helll of a lot longer!)

Unfortunately I don't meet the requirements for the 16 - 25 railcard due to being too old :(

Which is why its a rubbish name for the card! You can also qualify as a mature student

I am studying a part time course at college...
and this railcard (whatever it is called) is not available to part-time students....
    Are you eligible?

Open University, distance learning and part-time courses don't qualify...

A student's definition of part-time and the official definition of the course may will differ.

All the full-time courses at my college don't actually require full-time attendance and hence may be described by a student as part-time when they are in fact full-time (i.e. 15 hours of timetabled contact time)
If you're over 26 and in full-time education, you'll need:

    • To prove that you're studying full-time at a recognised school/college.
    • To attend for over 15 hours a week, at least 20 weeks a year
    • To show an ISIC card (International Student Identity Card), or complete and certify the 'Mature students only' section of the application form,. This form needs to be certified by the establishment where you are studying,

I've had some very cheap Advance tickets on that route before, so if you look into block booking several advance purchase tickets it may work out cheapest.
