the mini now come with standard tyres rather than run flats which i feel is an indicator that maybe they know alot of people dont like them. no room for a space saver over 15" i thought i had read somewhere that a smaller wheel was better but was not sure.

i am set on getting standard tyres as i for sure want rid of run flats as i do feel thety dont grip as well and are very certainly terrible at tramlining which is terrifying on the motorway!

Not much need if they have runflats.

They can actually have either, depends on model and spec. You don't get both.

I was told a tyre cannot be repaired if "foamed", not actually sure if that's true or otherwise, anyone know:confused:

A lot of garages wont repair runflats anyway so you may be no worse off with a foamed normal tyre ask your local tyre garage if they would repair a foamed tyre.

Before you spend out a wedge of cash why not go into the dealer and test drive another car on standard wheels to see if the difference is enough to warrant the expense.

I drive enough Mini's to know i couldn't possibly live with one, damned boneshakers and to me the standard tyred car isn't a lot better in ride, one good thing though is that the on the narrower higher profile tyres you will be able to move in above 1" of snow, whereas on the low profiles you have to reverse everywhere.

We just bought a new Mini Clubman. Took 2 out on test drive. One with and one without run flats, effect? Bought the one without runflats.

The topic of run flat tyres has been discussed ad-nauseum on the BMW forum I frequent, myself being one of the largest contributers over the last 3 years :o
Cold temperatures and run flats get worse.
Some run flat brands better than others.
I have Michelin Pilot Primacy HP ZP run flats now and they are almost as good as standard tyres for ride, no tram-lining etc. I did have standard tyres on the car for a while.
I used this http://www.puncturesafe.co.uk/flashintro.html when it used to be called Ultraseal and it works really well unless the puncture gets too big. I had a 2 inch cut in a tyre in the end and it still took 24 hours for the tyre to go flat with this stuff in the tyres. Gives you blowout protection just like run flats do, although 85% of blowouts are due to poorly maintained tyre pressures so avoidable if you check and correct them regularily (every 2 to 4 weeks).
