How to stop being hunted?

Its a question really. I have a ccj from 2004. I have moved twice since them, and the people dont know where i am.
It is obviously going to be nearly 2007, by the time i got on the electoral roll.
Now if I put my name down, how could an old debt find me? or what i mean to say is, how would they know i am the same person who had a debt in another town, a few years ago, if i dont tell anyone.
It just amazes me, that the bankruptcy laws were made more reasonable in these times of debt, but a CCJ lasts 6 times as long. Not only is it not fair, it is faintly ridiculous. I thought going bankrupt cost the country a lot more money, than owing a small amount of money (4200 in my case). I would be willing to pay it, or at least most, but it stays on your record anyway, so whats the point.
If someone can tell me how it is worth it, other than a vaguely moral reason, as i have my own opinion on this. I just want to start again, and am willing to pay something. But think it sick that i am in a worse position than a bankrupt.
So, i guess also i am asking. Could i go on the electroal roll, not mention my old ccj, and no one make a link. Thereforew havea clean credit record, for the time i havel ived here.
Eg
I moved here in May 2005, if i go on the electoral roll now, by the end of 2007, could i have a practically clean 3 year record, which is how far i am led to believe credit companies look back.
I am only looking to get one decent credit card, and maybe consolidate some bits and pieces, nothing much at all. But at moment i am paying high interest on a mortgage etc, because i got a high risk mortgage, maybe 200 a month over the odds.
I hope this all makes some sense. Please help.
Regards
TC

It's better to deal with your debts properly rather than running and hiding.0 -
From what I understand I don't think it matters if you don't mention your CCJ when you go on the electoral roll. As soon as you update your details with the bank etc and it all gets updated on your credit file, your new address will be linked with your previous credit history, which will show the CCJ.
I also think that when they search your credit file they search the whole thing (i.e. 6 years back) so you may just have to wait for it to drop off unfortunately. Unless any one else can suggest anything.1st LBM (Pre-Career Change): 01 March 2006 Debt Free Date: 28 April 2008 | Worst Debt: £7244.36
2nd LBM: 10 December 2019 Current Debt £25,322 [April 2020] | Worst Debt: £27,4440 -
Oh dear !!!
Unfortunately your beliefs are mistaken. Bankruptcy still stays on a persons credit record for 6 years even if they are discharged after 1 so they will still be worse off than you.
As another poster mentioned the CCJ will most likely follow you anyway. Instaed of trying to avoid it why dont you speak to the company concerned and come to some arrangement.0 -

I know we should face our debts etc, but no one is making me pay anything right now, and i dont want debt collectors at my door, they put me through hell for years before, of which ive gone in to detail in the past. sorry if that dissapoints the purists.
So if anyone who would like to help could take that into consideration, and maybe have some advice for me based on that, and my original question i would really appreciate.
Thanks to those who tried to help. But i am not being harrassed needlessly.

If you have ANY bank accounts, most likely bank will link to your new address when you tell them where you have moved to. Debts have a way of finding you.. I would suggest dealing with it properly for your own oeace of mind, if not for the 'vague moral reason' you strugggle with. (Doesn't seem vague at all to me, though. Pretty clear cut.)Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
you have mentioned that you would be prepared to pay something (should they catch up with), does that mean you are saving towards paying it of?
personally thinking....... you spent the money (in what ever form), then you should pay it...... so come clean, get it off your conscencesmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

Your question is about going on electoral role, and whether that affects debt tracing, is that right?
You have a mortgage already, so your details at all addresses given to mortgage lender will likely be on credit reports already, including ccjs, as lender will have linked new address to old ones.
So I don't think it makes any difference if you are on electoral role or not, your ccjs will already be against your address.
If that doesn't answer the original question, could you rephrase the question for us?Debt free 4th April 2007.
