Semi-permanent black won't fade!

hello, i wonder if anybody has any ideas about this....
10 weeks ago i dyed my naturally dark brown (with a tiny few silver) hair, with a semi-permanent 'nice and easy' black dye. i have never gone for permanent colours as i cannot be bothered with regrowth and having to re-dye my hair as soon as it needs doing...
.however, the black is still there and now i have brown regrowth. i really don't fancy doing it black again with the same dye as i shall just have the same problem, but the colour just refuses to fade!! does anybody have any ideas on how to lighten the colour with bleaching it out? many thanks in advance

Are you sure it was the semi permanent one you used (supposed to last 24 shampoos)? The boxes are quite similar for the permanent and the semi.

These dark shades can be very reistant. I used to use the Nice and Easy permanent one in Natural Dark Brown, went mad one Christmas and did it black, thinking it wouldn't make much difference.......! No chance of it fading, luckily my hair was short then so it was cut out eventually. Sorry, not really much help, but I feel your pain!0 -
hi, thanks for your reply. no, it was definitely the semi-permanent, i still have the box as i thought i may want to buy it again, but that's a big NO lol0

oooh sorry bronnie, i only saw the first part of your post!! yes, i have done my hair with darkest brown before with no problems, my hair is pretty dark anyway so i mainly did it to cover these horrible silver hairs that like to stick out like sore thumbs!! but black is another matter entirely, i was really impressed at first, thinking how well the colour was lasting, but now i am just cheesed off.
my hair is just past my shoulders so i won't be getting it cut out, here's hoping any body else might have any ideas, failing that, i might just keep dyeing it with semi-permanent darkest brown regularly as that starts out almost black.0 -
Wash it lots and lots with head n shoulders original, that should work if it doesn't, and I don't really recommend this but it does work (I've done it years ago) stripping the hair with neat vodka will lighten it up, just make sure you have a decent conditioner to hand as it is very drying, give the head n shoulders a good go first. Others on here have suggested Vosene and even Washing up liquid, so you can see where we are going with this basically any clarifying shampoo will help but H&S seems to do less damage - best of luck, I too feel your pain:)Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0

As do I - my last colour was meant to be strawberry blonde ( think Nicole Kidman) it actually came out a very dark brown. The hairdresser assured me that it would rapidly fade to the desired colour. She is normally excellent so I allowed myself to believe her. My hair does lose colour very quickly as a rule.
Guess what? - it hasn't. The underlying red is coming through ( finally) but 7 weeks later strawberry blonde it ain't!0 -
If its any help, the brands that make my hair fade the most are Pantene, John Freida, Lush and Kerastase (unless you use the ones designed for colour which may infact make the colour last longer)
I do wash and dry my hair daily though (apparently heat also affects the colour) so this may also add to it.0 -
If your hair is very porous then the black can take too much and can be a nightmare to get rid of. Would be tempted to go to hairdressers for an all over colour nearest to your natural colour and then go back to semi perms after you have first regrowth.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

hi , thanks for all you replies. i have been using head and shoulders for a few weeks now, after avoiding it as i know it can fade colour, but even that isn't shifting it!! think i will try the pantene or vosene, i have read that baking soda mixed with shampoo fades colour, but haven't tried it...yet!! failing that, i am going to buy a hat!!! hmmm we really should just be happy with our own colour shouldn't we lol.0

Have you tried swimming? The chlorine in the water fades hair colour, it worked for me when I did a similar trick
You need to go a few times but it really does fade the colour.

Hi glitterfairy, try Vosene and Johnsons baby shampoo to strip some of the colour off - but be sure to follow up with a moisturising condition afterwards! Good luck x0
