disc defragment

hiya

when doing my fortunetly clean on both machines i have xp on 1 machine and vista on another when i select disc defragment on xp i get "analyze" and i always click on that it then confirms weather a defrag is required but i don't get "analayze" on the vista machine just defragment when i select it the machine takes hours to run a defrag is there a way to have "analayze" on the vista machine?

I wouldn't say a disk defrag is actually required.. And it will take longer depending the amount of activity done on the drive and the size the drive.

You only need to defrag once every 5 months or so

Doesn't Vista automatically run defrag for you anyway?

Although personally I'd question the need to do it anyway. Maybe once or twice a year i fyou're keen.

thanks for all the replies i defrag every two weeks out of habit whilst cleaning the machines seems i don't need to do it so often

All that does is wear out your drive unnecessarily!
