Internet problem

i have just purchased a laptop 4 myself. when i connect it to my network which consits of a lynksys router and a switch. i connect it by ethenet like my other desktop pc's. i cant seem to browse the web. it sais the ethenet is connected but i just cant seem to browse in IE. just keeps comnig up page cannot be displayed. anyone got any idea? maby its the settings of IE or something.

    sounds like the software issue. go in to control panel go to system then hardware and device manager. look at the ethernet connection and see if there is any yellow exlamation mark, if there is, it needs updated drivers or theres a driver problem - software. if its not, then it could be the rj45 at fault

    Try this: in IE, click Tools - Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Setup and go through the New Connection Wizard. On the Network Connection Type screen, select 'Connect to the Internet', on the next select 'Setup manually' and then 'Connect using broadband...'.
