Quote for new UVPC front door - £1,500

We live in the London area. We had a well known regional double glazing company quote us on a new grade A UVPC door (not composite) door with side panel. Normal glass, no lead. Nothing fancy.
Quote started out at something silly but then dropped down to just under £1,500. Rather stupidly, we accepted this quote. Surveyor then followed. Deposit given but cheque not cashed. I am within the 7 day cooling off period.
Have we been duped? I think we have. We went with this company as it was recommended by someone.

That seems a lot of money to me. We were quoted under a £1000 by a local tradesman, who we knew to be reputable as they did next door. I haven't got their card anymore btw, but just to let you know.
Perhaps its London prices?

Thanks for your reply. We were going to get other quotes but we wanted it done quickly. We are not in main London so not sure if the price reflects where we live. Silly us - should have not signed.0 -
I hope you get your deposit back asap. I think our quote was actually near the £800 mark, exceptionally cheap. Definitely worth shopping about, as he did a good job of our neighbours.0

We paid even less than £800 for our white UPVC door last year, it was a small local company that did it, and I have been absolutely delighted with the door and their service. We were quoted over £3000 by Everest who sent a rather uppity salesman round, I'm glad we went with the smaller company and not just for the price difference! Definitely shop around more. (FYI I am not in London so obviously things will be a bit more expensive there)0

I paid £800 for a custom made solid hardwood (Sapele mahogany) paneled front door with frame, and 2 side lights.
£1500 for a bit of plastic is a joke.0 -
We paid just over £1000 for a composite door and a large side panel made to match the glass in the door. We are in Herts so the prices should not be that different to London.0
