I'm actually selling a stud sensor on Ebay at the moment.

I've a load of different cavity fixings
and these are the best by far. Hung radiators on them and a very heavy mirror (that the wife spent £1700 on  )
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

I agree with plumb 1 and Mikeyorks, those are excellent. Our house is timberframe so plasterboard everywhere, we use those ones for everything.

Could also try fixing the shelves to a piece of mdf or other wood, sanded/shaped/rounded at the edges, then painting to your desired colour. Then you fix the whole panel to the wall using several fixings and with loads of N.M.N/Grippfill in between. This won't go anywhere, although you would never get it off again so consult with wifey (if applicable) before fixing, to make sure it's in the 'right place'

You could paint it the same as the walls to blend in, or another colour to add contrast. So for example if your curtains are blue and the wall is white; have white shelves on a blue backing board on the white walls.
    Would look snazz

Ps, I've just seem the pics of your flat, looks alwhite but needs a splash of colour

It's how I want it. White with White and then two rooms are wishy washy Yellowy White. Minimalist at heart.
