Birmingham Hotel Advice

I am looking for a hotel in Birmingham for the 2 nights in March, as I will be down visiting my H2B who is at Cosford at the mo. I am flying down, and he will have his car (he wants to take me back to the airport when I go home) so we need somewhere that is easy to get to by car, with (free preferably, or cheapish) parking, and good links into the city.
I havent been to Birmingham for years so have no idea which area would be best!
Any advice gratefully recieved!
Thanks!

What's your budget and have you got any plans for places to visit in that time?
Will it be a weekend or not?Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Its close Birmingham International Train Station so you can hop on the the train to Birmingham New Street (Birmingham City Centre). Its about 10 mins for a direct fast train or you can get a local stopping service with takes about 20 mins.
Alternatively you can get the 966 bus into Solihull town centre approx 20 min journey if you want to do shopping etc

Doozergirl - sorry I should have given more info! It will be a friday and saturday night. The only place that I want to go is Cadbury World on the saturday, and maybe a bit of a trail round the shops or something on the sunday. The other thing we fancy is maybe a gig, or comedy night or something on the friday or saturday night. Budget would be up to about £70 a night (havent seen H2B since New Year, and wont see him for a while after so we dont mind spending a wee bit.....well I say 'we', but I mean 'he'!!!!)
Will have a look at the other places mentioned too, thanks everyone! :T0 -
To get to Cadburys World you can get the train from Birmingham New Street to Bournville its only about 12-15 mins on the train then about a 10 min walk.
Do you need your hotel to be close the airport or birmingham city centre?
Will you be driving or using public transport?
You could try the glee club for some comedy http://www.glee.co.uk/ thats in the city centre. Theres a nice cafe bar next to it called the green room for something to eat before hand http://www.greenroomcafebar.co.uk/menu.htm. which is also next to the arcadian http://www.thearcadian.co.uk/ which may be of interest.
Hotel wise you may want to be try http://www.ibishotel.com/gb/hotel-1459-ibis-birmingham-city-centre/index.shtml thats next to the places mentioned above.
People would think im from birmingham lolIm an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -

Thank you so much for the info!
We dont need to be near the airport, but somewhere on the road round between it and Cosford (where H2B is based at the mo) would be great, as he wants to be able to give me a lift to the airport, on the sunday.
I reckon we would just use public transport to get about everywhere else, as I imagine driving/parking etc would be a bit hellish!0 -
we stayed in the radisson sas hotel, and it was the best hotel weve ever stayed in, very comfy beds! But it was about £100 for the night dont know if its available cheaper. was a 5 minute walk to the train station0

A good central hotel is the Birmingham copthorne hotel. I have stayed there before and really enjoyed it. We stayed on a saturday night and paid around £50. It is close to everything and also has car parking. It is a 10 minute walk to the bull ring shopping centre, 5 minutes to the mail box. 5 minutes to Broad street and Brindley place which also has Jongulers comedy club. The train station (New street) is a 5 minute walk.
There are probably better quality hotels in Birmingham but this is well positioned. Otherwise try the crown plaza again cdentrally situated for shops / pubs / train station
Emjoy your stay0 -
Thanks for all your help people, its much appreciated. :j I have found a hotel on Hagley Road, that has really good write ups on trip advisor, and I can get a good deal through hotels.com and quidco (although I have emailed the hotel direct just to see if they can do a good deal too!). Fingers crossed they have rooms available! Now all I need is to find a 2 for 1 for Cadburys World!0

Sometimes if you go on the train to cadbury world you get get a discounted rate. I did this in the summer and got 30% off my entry fee. It may be worth a try0
