Rental Reference

Hey guys and gals

I am just in the process of moving house (rented to rented) and my new letting agents are requiring a previous landlord reference (never had to get one before)

Now my landlord is basically agreeable but a bit lazy so I was wondering if anyone knew where I can get a template reference so I can point him to that to make his job a bit easier

(I have no idea what needs to go in one of these references personally)

Thanks in advance

When I used to be a landlord and was contacted by an agency for a former tenants reference, they merely wanted to confirm the dates of their tenancy, if they paid on time and if I would recommend them to a future landlord (if I had any reservations about their character or something similar to that). I didn't have to submit anything in writing, just answer a couple of simple questions.

Have the agents actually asked you to get the landlord to provide something to them in writing? I'd have assumed that they would contact the landlord themselves to secure it?

Last two set of references I've had to fill in on behalf of someone else (character references) it was a tick box afair with only room for a few brief comments. Depends on the agent I would expect!

  • Thanks all

They have not formally asked for anything yet but the EA mentioned it in passing yesterday. We are going back for a second viewing tonight so thought I would be proactive and see if I could get the ball rolling asap.

He will be fine if they just send him something to tick and fill in - I wasn't sure if the reference required pages of narrative is all :)

Re: Mr tenants name & property address

    To Whom It May Concern:

Mr ****** has resided at the above address since 04.02.09, and pays his
rent monthly by means of cheque, Mr ****** has always paid his rent on
time and in the manner specified in the Tenancy Agreement. I would be
happy to renew his tenancy agreement if he wished.

Should you require any more information you can contact me at the above
address or call me on 07************

    Yours Sincerely.
