Escaton - direct debits are a useful tool if you're stoozing, maybe you've heard of stoozing? Or is it only financial dimwits who stooze?0

Not a chance of it happening to me. Unlike you, I am very much switched on financially.
Also don't do direct debits for credit cards, no need.
They are only a sefety net for people that don't know what they are doing in the first place.
Im assuming that you know when your credit card is produced and what your payment due date is then each and every month (as with some, such as MBNA, this can vary by two or three days). So for example, you know when your payment due date is in Feb 2010, March 2010, April 2010.
Afterall, many here (and credit card companies state) you shouldnt rely on your statements arriving to make payment. No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.

I don't even look at statements. That's pre-historic.
Online baking FTW Oscar.
MS Money also FTW, I know on average 2 weeks before the due date when a payment is due.0 -
eshaton, you are just being mischeivous and winding folks up.

FWIW, I manage my own finances in the same way as you. I don't do Direct Debits, and I never bother about paper statements. Online access is a wonderful thing, I know exactly when each of my cards needs to be paid by and I've never paid late.
People on here do tend to bang on about how Direct Debits are the answer to everything, but there are as many posts from those who have miss-understood or encountered problems with Direct Debits. Its a personal choice, but I prefer to avoid them.0 -

You're a tit. It came to me in a flash of inspiration. Would love to hear one bit of positive advice for people that they can actually use - tell us something we don't know, please.
Have posted with NickX for a long time now here and elsewhere and we regularly joust on whether DD's are "necessary" or not - the consensus is they work for the vast majority of the population but if you're on the ball and like Nick want to juggle your finances on a month by month basis there's no need for them.

So why are you here on this forum? You hardly have anything constructive to say looking at your other posts.
The idom about keeping mouth shut and let people think your are a fool rather than open it and remove all doubt comes to mind....0 -
I work for MBNA and I'm pretty sure the Direct debits are only automatically cancelled after 12/13 months inactive. Is it possible you hadnt used the card for a year?0
