Halifax Contents Insurance - TV Claim

Hi
We have a crack in our Sony 32" (old style bought in 2005) TV which I am claiming for on my contents insurance. Bevalued have told us that the equivalent replacement TV with the same spec is a Goodmans LCD tv.
The Goodmans TV is £300 and the cheapest Sony one is £430. Should I be pushing for more money out of the or do I have to accept that a Goodmans is now the same quality as a Sony. I have had a look in my policy booklet and its not really helping.
They are also only offering us Argos or Comet both of which are much more expensive than other places. Has anyone argued and managed to change it.
Thanks
Dillence

they will have an 'arrangement' with A or C, so cost (to them), is sorted
If the G's IS the same quality (regardless of the cheapest S one), then seems you have no choice.
Your policy says 'new for old', and you get a new tv of equivalent quality0 -
You may find this information from the Ombudsman usefuk

Bear in mind the suppliers are sometimes influenced by the deals or bonuses the manufacturers offer which can mean they offer a certain manufacturer.
Personally I would not accept a Goodmans TV if I had in effect invested in a Sony TV0 -
Hi
Just wanted to thank you for your comments. I have successfully to get them to change firstly to a Sony that was out of stock in my area and then to the one thats £430.
It was quite easy actually, I am sure that they were just trying it on in the first place.
Thanks

Most insurers will have a service agreement with Bevalued stating that if the customer complains about "brand loyalty" then they should offer the same brand.
Well done on successfully getting the right replacement - pity that you had to fight to get it mind.0
