Microsoft Word 97

Hi there
Hoping someone can help me out here!
My laptop didnt come with word or anything on it, I managed to download a version and have used it quite alot to save documents etc. Now it was only a trial version and the trial has now ended and I can still open my documents saved on it but I cant edit or start a new document.
Its asking me for a product key when I open it up.
Any ideas on a way around it or where I can get a free version etc?
Meny thanks !!

You can't (legally) get a free full copy of Word 97 (or other). However, here are some options to consider:

    1) If you're a student, you can get Office 2007 for £35-odd

    2) The Office 2010 beta is available to download and free until October

    3) OpenOffice is the free, open-source equivalent. It's great for most uses, although IMO not quite as good as Microsoft Office, but still with merit.

this free software is compatible with word:

there are other ways to abtain a key but im pretty sure they are not allowed to be discussed on here

  • To buy Microsoft Office you have a couple of options whether you are a student, work for the NHS or just a home user.

    If neither of those options are available then there are office suites that are available legally and free of charge that are compatible with most of the features of Microsoft Office such as;

    Lotus Symphony

Unused older software and licences are often available on eBay for very little. Worth a look there.

Also check if your employer subscribes to Microsoft employee schemes - we got Office Enterprise 2007 for £12 legally that way.

..or try OpenOffice as others have said. If you don't want to download it, I think you can currently get it from Staples on a USB Memory Stick.

    Im not a student no.
If I got office 2010 would I be able to still use the documents I have saved and edit them? As this is ideally what I need, I have some documents that are very long and I cant redo them, they have graphix etc on them also. And where would I be able to download that from? Thanks
  • You don't have to be an actual student to buy from software4students. I think you have to be related to a student. For example I look after my nephew on Saturdays sometimes. He often comes with his homework which he writes out and then types up when he gets home as I have a new laptop with no software on it. I found software4students last week and emailed them to ask if I would qualify and they said yes. I'm currently waiting for my software to arrive (only got around to ordering it yesterday!).

You should be able to load, edit and save existing documents - until of course the beta expires in October.
    Download from Microsoft here
