Rechargeable batteries - is this a stupid question

Not really sure where to post this question anyhow.
Can I safely charge different branded batteries in a charger ? I have an old uniross which charges both Ni-Cd and Ni-MH (?) but the batteries are too weak for latest gadgets.

it depends if the charger will charge Ni-Cd and Ni-MH, i dont know if chargers are designed to charge both types of batteries ?

In your case the answer is no.
If they are the same brand and in working condition and of the same chemistry type then ok, Do not mix them all up.

It depends on the charger. The better ones charge individual cells so you can mix different capacity cells or even NiCad and NiMh in one session (but some offer a discharge/charge cycle for NiCad which isn't necessary for NiMh).

If the charger will only charge groups of cells then in any given charging session they should all be the same type and nominal capacity. Brand is irrelevant.

If your cells are more than a couple of years old bin them and buy new ones anyway.
