harness minefield!

Hi, I'm sure I am just faffing and being ridiculously over the top over this. I am looking for the perfect harness for my puppy. I bought her a nylon lead and collar and she was getting used to it. However I noticed last week that it had chaffed her neck and there was some irritation on her skin. I have bathed it and used ointment to prevent infection and it has healed perfectly.

I have decided now to buy her a fleece harness to prevent irritation around the neck (she has some loose skin around neck being a pup) I have come across two that I have narrowed it doen to.

One is made by Trixie and the other is Sally Hopkins.

The trixie one is cheaper by around £7 in some places and typically the Sally hopkins being the better quality IMO is the one I prefer.

However, I am trying not to buy with my heart as it were because I have a tendency to be a little 'precious' over things like this and need to be sure I am buying one that is good enough, not necessarily the dearer one which may not do the job any better anyway.

I'm sorry if this seems a little random, maybe I am just thinking aloud here.

Do I go with the one that is the best and shut my eyes and pay it or the one that does the job and is affordable?

I'm thinking twice about this, it shows I have come a long way with my attitude to spending:D

my dog has a fleece harness from snugglepets. it was about £14, but a lot of people on her flyball team recommended it.

so far it has held up quite well, and i actually found that she behaves better on walks when she is wearing that as opposed to wearing just a collar!

Just had to google those, i've seen the Sally Hopkins type a lot.

It also looks on the site i've seen the Trixie that it doesn't have a fleece cover on the girth strap like the Hopkins and if you have a dog that gets rubbed easily i think i'd want all the straps covered. So on that basis i'd go for the Hopkins.

Yes, I compared trixie to Sally Hopkins too and arrived at the same conclusion-that the trixie one doesn't have the fleece around the tummy which is where she will really benefit from having it.

I use their harnesses too & they've been great!

I can't advise on harnesses but you should be aware that a collar and identity tag are a legal requirement.

I can recommend Ezy-Dog collars - they are hardwearing but padded so should not chaff the skin. They're also available in lots of clours and prints.

Just thought I would mention that alot of people say not to use harnesses on puppies until they finish growing? We got one for our pup but when he wore it to training class they told us not to use it.

Interesting i'd of thought a harness would distribute any pressure better than a collar. Was it a KC citizens training class as they don't allow the use of harnesses, halti's etc just a collar?
