Isnt Ready Brek a smooth Porridge.
Its extremely good for you not only for your diabetes but it keeps your cholesterol in check too.

No my diabetic nurse said no Ready Brek, there is sugar in it. You need normal porridge.

    EricsMum,

If you have a food processor, you can grind down any oats to the size you prefer. Do it on 'pulse' though or you'll end up with powder.
  • I use Ready Brek as I'm not keen on lumps or bumps in my food - it's extremely yummy and comes in 3 different flavours - original, chocolate and honey :)

Oat So Simple is another good choice, but not as smooth as Ready Brek - comes in a variety of flavours too, ontop of 'original'.

There's a new porridge being advertised on tv at the moment called 'Paw Ridge' (aimed at kids I assume..i say bah humbug to that ;) ) - states on the advert that it's smooth with no lumps at all :)

Usually I buy one bag of Taste the difference oats and one bag of value oats and mix them together to get the texture that I like.

Classic Ready Brek is my breakfast of choice- I've just checked the label and there is NO added sugar or salt. It is 60% rolled oats and 39% oat flour. Rest presumably is the added folic acid, vitamins etc etc. Can't comment on the flavoured varieties but I am sure they would have added sugar.

I found the Oats so Simple too sweet for me.

I was watching Ideal World yesterday and they were demonstrating a blender. They used normal porridge oats and the blender had such a powerful motor that it heated up the porridge in minutes. When it came out it looked very smooth - looked like a pudding.

The only drawback is that the Vitamix blender cost over £400!:o (Must've been a one day special as I just looked on the website and it's now back up to almost £570 :eek:)

You'd really need to like smooth porridge to have to pay that. :p

They were doing a demonstration of these when we were in Costco and the man made a Baileys Iced Coffee Smoothie. It had the strangest list of ingredients in it including raw white cabbage, carrot and cucumber in it but do you know it was absolutely delicious.

Not quite as healthy as porridge though ;)
