    Thank you for your help.
If anyone could pm a company or firm i could contact that would be great.
If need be then I would have to pay higher premiums, this would not be a problem to myself.
My children are what matter the most.
    Thanks

Boo666, can I ask which insurance company declined you? Also, did you get a specific 'reasons why' letter stating precisely the reason why your application was declined or just the stock 'medical grounds' one? The former has to be specifically requested. Also, can I ask your smoker status?

Hi yes it was legal and general. They sent me a standard letter saying i had been refused but not giving me any reason. Yes i do smoke but only 10 a week, it is never more and sometimes it is only 1 or 2

You would normally have to state in your application you wanted to see a copy of your medical report....as for being a smoker...a smoker is a smoker regardless of 1 a day or 1 a week. Premiums for smokers are also higher as smokers carry a greater health risk....as castle96 and others have said, you should make contact with an adviser who will guide you through the process for obtaining cover..

The combination of asthma and smoking won't have helped when the underwriting decision was made. Asthma on it's own is more often than not allowed on standard terms, but it's a different matter if an asthmatic person is a smoker.

...err... no you don't. Under the access to medical records act, you only have to specify if you want to read the report before it is sent to the insurance company. Otherwise, you are legally entitled to see a copy at your doctor's surgery, within 6 months of it being completed (most GPs keep it on file indefinitely).

Anyway, that's not what I was getting at. If you did use an adviser / broker ask them to request a 'reasons why' letter from L&G. This will go direct to you and give specific reasons why your application was declined.

The fact that you smoke isn't the point, obviously you disclosed it, and rightly so, it's the smoker and asthma combination that makes underwriters nervous. Had you applied for critical illness cover for example, this in itself would have resulted in a straight decline, regardless of any other disclosures.

To be honest, L&G aren't renowned for their latitude when it comes to certain health 'risks', mental health issues and depression is a prime example. If you did use a broker / adviser, my guess would be that they did little, if any, pre-application medical underwriting research on your behalf.

It's possible that if you can find a good one who is willing to do a bit of leg work, you may be able to get terms elsewhere. No certainties though.

Hi yes i told them everything.
It makes me wish I had not been honest:(
My friends mum had liver problems from drink and smoked around 20-30 a day and she still got a policy or had one.
She died because of her drinking to!! Unless of course she did not mention her problems?
I did not ask for the critical illness cover as I did not want this, I just wanted a amount for my children to be used for there care if the worse was to happen.

So you would prefer that they refuse to pay out on your policy if you died?

The person who was a drinker and smoker probably wasn't also an asthmatic.

One of the issues you have is you have lots of medical conditions which affect your health. Do as already suggested on the thread and use an IFA. They are not scary to use.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p
