fraudulent transactions - very worried

hi guys,

Im looking for a bit of advice please?
My mum currently has a CC with Clydesdale bank. About 2 months ago, she was trying to do some telephone banking but they kept telling her that the DOB was wrong. The next day she went into the bank with her proof of ID and got the DOB changed.

Today she opened her statement ( which she received a week ago but is dated 21st dec) and there are a few fraudulent tansactions on them.
The problem is she has called up the CC company who havent had the change in DOB(which the branch said they had done). This means that they wont tell her anything about how much has been run up on the card or even what the procedure would be....

she is really really worried and so am I.

has anyone any experience

I'd advise she goes to branch with the statement and ID and explain the situation and ask them to refer it to their fraud team.

    Good luck

Not sure how a local branch could help with a credit card enquiry. Different part of their business.

Your Mother has to phone the person she has the contract with (CC) and explain the error in DOB. How did that hppaen with more than one company and why do you think there's been a fraud? Could be a simple error.

It's not your business either so it's up to your Mother to do this and if she struggles they will then speak to you with her permission.

I hope the New Payment Regulations (below) ease your Mums mind:

Unauthorised transactions – if you think a transaction on your account was not authorised by you, the bank or building society will need to prove either that you authorised it, or that you either deliberately or carelessly allowed someone else to get hold of your password or PIN. Just because your PIN was used will not necessarily be enough to prove that this is the case. Unless the bank or building society can prove this, it will have to refund your account immediately. If it can show that it needs to investigate the claim, then that investigation must be done quickly (within a few days).

    Good luck.
