Dont worry about it now. call in the morning, if they dont have a record of it, call the solicitors. They should keep records

I'd also give the register office a call. They are very helpful

It has caused no end of problems as i have no actual i.d, the i.d i have is of no use as i dont exist!! To Frannyann, thankyou, i shall also be on the phone to them tomorow, i have a feeling ive phoned them before tho, i can only guess theyll be busy in the morning lol xxx

  • I changed my name, via a solicitors around 5 years ago. When i did so they gave me a number of 'certified copies' of the change of name deed. If you contact the solicitors again they should be able to provide you with more certified copies, probably for a small charge though.

  • I work at a Solicitors and we don't register the Change of Name Deeds. We just give the original to the client. We don't keep copies. Only thing a client can do if they loose it is to have a new one drawn up.

In a roundabout way.....yes and no. Rang the registry office and they said that we needed change of name deed. Rang the solicitors where it was done, only to be told the practice had changed hands due to the lead partner dying and the man who actually did my change of name deed no longer working there.

A lovely lady told me she would go and have a look in the old premises and would get back to me within the week. I've got a reminder on my calendar to ring her next Monday if I've heard nothing.

I did not get an original. And get a new one drawn up, wouldn't there be a discrepancy in the dates on the passport and the new deed?

I did mine change of surname online and they sent me deed poll to me with a thing saying i can pay for extra copys to be stored.

Which i didn't, and now i have lost it lol.

But my mum got my sisters change of name deed from the registers office when she was doing our passports as she changed my sisters surname when she was a baby.

    Good luck! :)

    xx
  • You can get a Statutory Declaration explaining when you changed your name, under what circumstances and how long you have been the new name for. Most government departments will accept this as it is a legally binding oath and you can be imprisoned for falsely swearing an oath under the Statutory Declarations Act.

Unfortunately they will incur the cost of a Solicitor or Commissioner for Oaths drawing one up for you, but at least then you will have a document.

May I suggest also requesting school records. They will show your historical use of the name should you be challenged.

    Hope that helps!
