Planning Wedding......Absolutely Clueless!!!

Hello everyone

OH and I got engaged in 2008 (well I proposed to him on Feb 29th) and now we're starting to plan the wedding.

I've got a little problem and was wondering if anyone could help me.

I am currently using a different surname to that I was born with (as I want nothing to do with my biological sperm donor:mad:) and it was changed in 2003 by change of name deed.

I have my passport in the name I am using now, but I do not have my birth certificate as it was lost when I moved in 2007.

From what I have been reading when you go to give notice of getting married you have to produce proof of identity. It also says
If you have changed your name by Deed Poll, Change of Name Deed or by Statutory Declaration these documents will need to be shown to the Superintendent Registrar.
I do not have anything that states I have done a change of name deed as I used them all when I was applying for driving license, passport etc

What do I do??

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I need to understnad things and not make a fool of myself when I go to give notice!:o

TIA:T

Is there no way that you can contact the name change deed poll people and ask them if they can send you a copy of the relevant paperwork? surely they keep copies? you might have to pay for it i guess

I know you need to show your passport, and they also ask if you've changed your name so you'd have to have this documentation.

You could even give your local register office a call and see what they say. they've probably come across this before and will be able to tell you what you need to do.
What matters most is how well you walk through the fire

Thanks for the info. I will get in touch with the solicitors where I did the change of name deed and ask if I can get another copy in the morning.

Will also give register office a ring too

    Thanks again

    For Deed Poll enquiries:
    The Manager,
    Room E15,
    Queen’s Bench Division,
    Action Department,
    The Royal Courts of Justice,
    STRAND
    LONDON
    WC2A 2LL
    Telephone: 020 7947 6221
Just give them a ring and ask, often cheaper to go direct than via the lawyers who will charge you more for a copy!

Its the same thing! Its just the solicitors did it for you instead of you doing it yourself. Any name change (to be legal) is done through the 'Deed Poll' office! HTH

OK, so I just read a deed poll page and it says that if I paid less than £100 for it to be changed it will not have been recorded anywhere:confused::confused:

I'm confused now! Think I will just admit defeat until the morning as it's currently driving me nutty!!

Strange?? So the solictor has charged you to send 'I would like to be known as' instead of actually changing your name?? Speak with the Deed poll office in the morning and ask if your solicitor lodged paperwork to change your name.

And if they haven't? Then what should I do? I've been known by the surname I am now since I was 12 (12 years ago) but changed it at solicitors in 2003....I feel a major screw up!!!

It could be that back in 2003 it was MUCH cheaper to change, so I would not worry about the £100 thing, thought you'd only recently changed it! It probably has been done all legit then! :D
