Any chance of getting a mortgage?

Hi. Just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and can offer any advice.
My boyfriend of five years and I would like to get a mortgage on a property (valued at £90,000). He is in the Navy and has been for the past two years and I'm a teacher so we've both got pretty secure jobs and decent incomes.
The problem is that the bf was made jobless just over four years ago through no fault of his own. During this time he defaulted on a loan and the loan was sent to a debt collection agency. There seem to be two deafults shown on his experion report where the debt has been passed around. Since he's been back in work he's made a big effort to get rid of the debts, paying back more than he needs to and his credit has been 'clean' for over 4 years. He now owes just over 2000.
I myself have a clear credit history with the exception of one late payment. I have a car loan of just over 4000 but have never missed a payment.
We have a 10% deposit.
Does anyone want to hazard a guess as to what our chances of getting a mortgage might be or what banks might look more favourably on us?
Thanks in advance!

You'll find more expertise on the double default on the DebtFreeWannabe part of these forums. I suggest you take just that part of the problem there. I think you would be advised to get that reduced to one default - and it is unfair to enter it twice - so you do have rights to ahve that corrected. You should get this done before looking for a mortgage.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
