back to the coke - does your supermarket do the huge packs of 24 cans? if you cant give it up then this is also cheaper than buying it in 6 packs.0

wigginsmum wrote:How about baking with margarine rather than butter? It comes out much nicer and spreads easily to be creamed into the sugar.
Got to disagree with you here Wigginsmum.Butter tastes miles better in baking.
Earwig, if you want soft butter for spreading, just keep it in a dish on your worktop.Half a pack at a time, smaller quantities when it's very warm.
I use the Tesco Value butter for the baking I do for school and if it was produced in this country I'd use it at home too.I like to support our dairy farmers so I buy the cheapest English butter I can find.0 -

Another pizza idea that I do which is nice & quick for lunches as well as tea
Is french bread style.
Sometimes you can get them reduced, if you see them cheap get some and put them in the freezer, but you can also use those bake at home bagettes in tescos they are 35p for 2.
Get the bread ( defrost it obviously if youve had one in the freezer)
Slice it long ways in half then to the size you need each
Spread with tomoato puree ( jars work out cheaper than tubes)
then add on whatever youve got, slice of chopped ham, or a rasher of cooked bacon, bit of leftover chicken, handful of frozen sweetcorn ( deforst quickly in a bowl with some boiling water from the kettle, drain) chopped onion, whatever you happen to have in.
Also I can see there that you are eating things that not everyone likes. Must be a right hassle for you!! I agree, you can get chickens for 2 for a fiver at tescos at the moment. For sunday lunch can you do a chicken instead, a) its cheaper, b) it goes further c) everyone will eat it so your not slaving over the stove making 2 sets of meals for everyone!
We had one last night roasted with corn cobs, oven chips, garlic mushrooms ( farmfoods about 50p) and a bit of salad. This was our nandos at home meal
We have left over chicken. OH had chicken & ham snadwiches for his lunch today, and theres enough left for me to make a curry with. Or of course you can go bak to stirfrys with a bit of spare chicken. If you wanted you could get those stirfry packs of veg ( im not keen as they are a bit chemically) but its a cheap meal for 4 with noodles, left over chicken, a shop sauce.
Say the beef joint, hope you are using the rest of sandwiches at least? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
How about keeping some of your coke bottles and buying a big bottle then decanting it into the smaller ones? It only goes flat because when you take some from a big bottle, there is air in the bottle afterwards and the gas bubbles in the coke have somewhere to disperse.
You do eat an awful lot of meat between you!
I buy a large chicken that does 3 meals and freeze the carcass for soup one week, topping up with bacon for quiche, pizza ,bacon and onion pie
and liver, sausages, mince ,bacon the second week .
We have sandwiches at lunch of cheese, sardines, salad, egg and sometimes reduced sliced meats.
My Oh hated his mums mash made with butter and water but likes it with just milk .
A bread maker is really useful and you can use it to mix bread dough for rolls and burger/hot dog buns /pizza bases to be finished off in the oven. You could also do these in a food processor .0 -
hi thankyou for your replys
the beef can you keep cold beef then if you can how long for i always throw away whats left as i never no what to do with it
the coke i would love it if the suppermarkets done the huge boxs in caffeen free but they dont they used to do a 12 pack which i brought three a week of but they have changed to a ten pack fridge size box and it works out cheeper at the minute to buy six pack as sainsburrys and doing two packs for three pounds at the minute
do we realy eat a lot of meat is that a bad thing? my oh loves his meat i once done him egg and chips for dinner which he ate no problem but two hours latter he went and brought a chicken keeba as he hadnt had meat on his plate so it wasnt a proper dinner? dont get me wrong he will eat most things and dosnt moan about it at all but if there is no meat on his plate he will go and buy a takeaway so i think sod it if you are going to spend that much on one meal for you we can all eat steak chops for the same price and no he wont have bacon or sauages with it as it then becomes a breakfast not a dinner i know he is a pain when it comes to cooking
i have just been to the butcher and so far i have spent 16.00 i brought one beef joint one large rump steak two pork chops 4 lamb chops 2 chicken breast(instead of the chicken nibbles )will try and get a souther freid coating for them in asda and two pounds of sauges to do the kids and there freinds hotdogs for there tea tomorrow is that good or bad price wise iam off to asda later and will update you on what i spent there thanksi cant slow down i wont be waiting for you i cant stop now because im dancing0 -
Chop up your cold beef, freeze it in bags, and use it for stir-fries.
Your diet does seem meat-heavy, I must admit - we've moved from meat 2-3 times a day to 3 times a week as an evening meal. If it concerns you, you could do things like stews and increase the amount of vegetables, or try veggie pasta sauce or something like that. The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0 -
36 cans of coke a week = approx 5 a day
1 can = 330ml so approx 6 cans makes a 2 liter bottle
i am 99% positive a bottle wont go flat in aday even if you left the top off.
tescos on line right now has 2x 2 liter bottles of diet caffeiene free coke for £2.00
i am sorry to harp on about this, honestly dont mean any offense - just feel if you really want to make savings this is the first place you could start0
