I have been offered money from HBOS - Financial Hardship Case

I have been offered £175 from HBOS in regard to my bank charges claim (that was being dealt with under the financial hardship waiver when the the new court ruling came out).

I had been claiming for about £1200. However I have had past payments made due to charges from the bank totalling around £2000.

Do you think I should accept this good will gesture or fight on for more ? Do I have a chance of getting more from them ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Callum

The question is about whether the money will help alleviate financial hardship or not. If you are more concerned with if you can get more out of them, then how bad is your financial hardship?
Have they stated for what period of time is the payout for?

  • no they have not put a time on it. My hardship is still there however I have just got myself a new job.

I do still have mortage arrears, countil tax arrears, overdrafts and credit cards. So although £175 would be nice. In the big picture it will not help alleviate my situation (which the letter states it will).

They calculated the £175 as I was over my overdraft through some of November and all of December and was therefore getting charged £5 per day for the privelage.

    35 days at £5 a day. £175!!

I would re read post 2 for my answer. It is about whether the amount helps with your financial hardship.

  • spoke with the bank today and they told me that the bank would not change its offer and to take it to the ombudsman if I'm not happy. Reckon I'll sleep on it as £175 is not going to make any difference
