RBS Credit Card - Direct Debit

Hi

Just after some advice. I set up a DD with my RBS credit card in December. I thought this was set up for December's minimum payment to come out in December. It turns out it wasn't as when I got my statement it said my account was in arrears and I owed £61 from the last statement and £61 from this statement (total amout due £122 by direct debit on 8th Jan) On the statement though it said I needed to call them to remedy the arrears situation. I paid £61 via internet banking over Xmas as I was being chased for late payment by RBS. When I spoke to them they said that only £61 would now be collected by DD in January as I had now paid the arrears from December.

I have just checked my bank though and they have taken £122 by DD. So now I have paid £184 this month. I have spoken to RBS and they have said there is nothing they can do. Why would they chase me if they were going to take it all anyway? Do you know where I stand with getting this back as RBS said they didn't think they could transfer money back to me?

I have cut the card up, so I can't take it back off there.

Thanks for your help.

I am pretty sure that with RBS your minimum gets taken regarless is you have anything towards that statement. Same with MBNA - often I have been in credit after they have taken the minimum by DD. With My lloyds card they clearly say any creditsbefore a certain date will reduce the amount collect by DD.

When in december did you set the direct debit up and when was it due?

It takes most companies 14 days to set up a new direct debit.

Looks like yours is set up for the 8th which means you must have only called RBS a few days before your Dec payment was due
