in Credit cards
I closed my Egg Green card several months ago, and despite email assurances that the account is closed it still appears in "My Money".
Has anyone else closed an Egg credit card and still have the account appearing?

Yes, I queried this with Egg.
They assured me it was closed, but that they were allowing me on-line access.
If this is true (and I have no reason to think it isn't) then it's very useful.0 -
I've not closed an Egg CC but several others have still shown up on Internet banking after I've closed them. I also still kept getting statements for one as well. They eventually stopped after I spoke to them.
Did you also know that even though you've closed the account, the CC company will still continue to process payments as long as your card details are valid. This is perhaps why they still give you info on the account in case a charge is made.0 -

Closed mine just over a month ago, but it's still showing. I have found this also with other banks (A&L) etc. particularly when I have subsequently opened another account, whether credit card, savings etc. and was waiting for my new ID to come along. At that point, I discovered my original ID was still valid, but of course, I had thrown it all away and as far as I was concerned, I had closed the account and wouldn't be needing it agian.
Likewise my old Egg Savings Account occasionally shows up, usually when they have had a glitch with their computers. They seem to reboot all the old accounts and it appears for a matter of hours and then disappears into the dark unknown from whence it came!0 -

I would suggest that you wait a couple of months (to allow sufficient time) and then get a copy of your credit report to check.
You can either do this for free by signing up to one of the free trials or pay the £2 for the statutory report.
I suggest waiting for a couple of months, otherwise you just risk paying £2 only to be told it's not gone through their system yet.
It took Egg about 3 weeks to close my account and can take up to a month to get onto the credit report (as some companies update monthly) so allow 2 months at least. I would allow 3 to be on the safe side.
If you check your report every now and again then you should be able to pick up on any accounts that haven't been closed.0 -
I closed mine a long time ago - March 2005 to be exact. I can still see some of the details, such as the card number and the credit limit.
Since I closed it I haven't held anything from Egg due to better offers (0%) elsewhere, so it's standard practice by the looks of it.0 -
I personally think it's very useful.
I have had 2 situations that I can think of.
1) Recently I had a refund of some tickets as the show was cancelled. As I had to buy the tickets about 6 months ahead I couldn't remember which card I'd used and where the refund was coming. It was in fact a closed card and I'm glad I found out because I'm sure they wouldn't have put my refund in the post without me asking. They would just have left my account in credit.
2) I had a faulty shaver once. In some cases the credit card company can provide you with a copy of the receipt (if it's recent enough).
Otherwise some stores will accept statements as proof of purchase. This helped me get a brand new shaver when I didn't have the receipt.
I think it's a useful facility.0 -
I agree lisyloo, it is useful, as long as the cards are marked as closed on credit reports.
