no doubt first of my many pleas in 2010 ...for help on all matters "techie".
Nothing ever just works first click out of the box ....
when you turn off your computer by going to the "start" button .. what chance have you got !!!.
This time ... in a coffee shop in tenerife ... .. liked the background music ! .. the guy said "i'll put the mp3 music on a cd for you". .. double dutch to me when he says there's nearly 200 tunes .. i'd always thought when copying cds that you couldn't get more than about a dozen tunes , around the 70 minutes .. onto a blank cd .. but hey .. presume this is something differrent that i'm learning about !!
Get home .. put cd into dell desktop drive ... my itunes pops up .. (as normal i didn't ask ...it just did it!)
It shows in the box at the top that there's about 180 tunes being added ... after a while that's done and i see the tunes i amongst my existing 1000 that i had .
Problem is .. when i click any of the tunes .... i get a box saying " The song xxxxxxxxxxxx could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it? ".... there is then a "locate" box .. and a "cancel" box .
When i click "locate" it comes up with the box headed "itunes" and showing "look in"box and all places on my comp .. eg desktop .. my computer .. .. c drive .. etc .
But how does a simple person like me have a clue what to do next ?? !!!!
.....other than turn to the brilliance & generosity of you guys on the techie board who have never yet failed to sort me out !!! .
I didn't attempt to plug in my ipod as i wanted to go through all the songs and delete those i don't want before updating my ipod.

itunes is looking for the cd that they were on when it added them to the library, copy the songs to your music folder first from the cd and add them to itunes from there.0

The reason you can get 180 tracks on a CD is they're saved as mp3's, which is a compressed format. Typical mp3 track is 4MB, so about 175 will fit on a 700MB CD.No free lunch, and no free laptop

cooltt ......copy the songs to your music folder first
how do i do that ?
and do i need to delete the ones that have downloaded already ?0 -
Does this help?If iTunes is set to "Copy files to the iTunes Music folder when adding to library," iTunes will copy all content that is added to the iTunes library to the iTunes Music folder. To adjust this setting or change the location of this folder, go to the Advanced tab in iTunes Preferences.0

tanglefoot ... got there ... doesn't have that box ticked ... but bit confused whether it should/shouldn't be .
""iTunes will copy all content that is added to the iTunes library to the iTunes Music folder. To adjust this setting or change the location of this folder, go to the Advanced tab in iTunes Preferences.""
........tbh is double dutch to me !.0 -
Check the box, it makes life much simpler. Then iTunes will put all the music you add into the same place otherwise, as happened with the CD, if the original file is moved/deleted, you won't be able to play it in iTunes anymore.0
