OH bought a cheap landline phone from Argos in Feb 09 when he moved into his first flat. It was never fantastic quality and always on the quiet side, but being in a new property and needing to buy everything from scratch, we never got around to replacing it.
Last week the phone started ceasing to work altogether, kept going on/off silent randomly during calls (even when it was just the outgoing ringing tone). Called Argos to ask whether there was any manufacturers guarantee on it, thinking that there wouldn't be and we'd just have to fork out for a new one (no longer had the box/receipt). I think I happened to get through to the manager at the time, who explained that they have a 1 year guarantee on most electrical goods.
I explained that we no longer had any proof of purchase, apart from a reservation email which only said that we had reserved the item for store pick-up in Feb 09, no proof that we actually turned up to purchase it then. Manager was extraordinarily helpful. OH turned up at the store with the phone + plug (no box!) and the manager accepted a print-off of the reservation email as proof of purchase and gave us an exchange of a brand new phone (same item number as it was a year ago, but a brand new fancy model with additional features and £5 more expensive!) with no additional costs to pay
Thank you and well done for the awesome customer service, Argos!
