The policy I have with OUL doesn't say anything in the policy wording about vaccinations and nor did the policies I have previously held with Insure and Go - where did you hear about this exception?

Im sure I read that on here?

Before I buy insurance can someone confirm once and for all that I only need to do it as if I was going to Europe, basically doing it the same as I have for every other holiday I've had?

Thanks, just don't want to mess it up...

I'm almost sure that my policy with Direct Travel excludes medical cover for anything that a vaccination is available for if you don't have it done.

You would need to check the specific policy you are thinking of buying to make sure it includes Egypt under Europe. Most include all countries bordering the Med, but it's best to make sure.

Yeah it's hard to check online. For example I just got a quote from More Than and they ask if you are going to Europe or outside Europe. There is no mention of Egypt. The actual qoute game in at £40 per person for a week away so that sounds a bit expensive. I clicked outside of Europe though...

It shouldn't be that hard to check online. Most companies have their policy documents available to read online, it just takes time.

    Ok thanks.

It's just I read on here that someone says Egypt, for some reason, comes under Europe when you get insurance. If it does obviously I would get Europe rather than out of, which costs double.

Just found out it comes under Europe, that's strange, but good.

Now just got to book it, never know what's round the corner!

I would imagine that the vaccination issue would come under the clause that is in most policies which is that you as the holidaymaker should do everything that you can to avoid being in a situation to make a claim. So whilst we might connect that to not leaving your camera in your hire car, so too it will refer to making sure you have the vaccinations that are required for the country you are visiting. The problem with 'recommended' vaccinations is that you have different opinions in different places, your holiday company might specify something different to what your GP surgery suggests for example.

I still feel that only mandatory vaccinations will affect insurance and not recommended ones.

I can only say that if you're worried, get them all done, that's whether the concern is about falling ill or insurance concerns.

The europe thing - well it's about risk and north Africa is generally covered under Europe with Egypt being pretty much the furthest away - you will find that Tunisia and Morocco are also under Europe despite being in Africa. You should be able to look these up on websites, with insureandgo and post office it's as you go into a quote when you go select Europe or worldwide there is a questionmark which when you click it tells you which countries are covered where. I presume that other insurer websites have similar.

I have got a quote over the phone with 'Flexicover' for a couple £17 and I mentioned vaccinations, they said as long as we are fit to go we are ok?

Flexicover is underwritten by Axa who are not great on travel claims.

Here is the relevant exclusion from their policy

Exclusions under Section B – Emergency medical and other
    expenses
Treatment or surgery which, in the opinion of the medical practitioner in
attendance, can wait until your return to your home area.
Medication which, prior to departure, is known to be required.
Expenses incurred as a result of a tropical or other disease where the
recommended inoculations have not been undertaken.

There was a poster on MSE in the Summer who picked up Malaria and Axa asked did not believe he had taken the jabs and refused the claim. So if the jabs are "Recommended" then you will not be covered for medical costs of you pick up a tropical disease
