We managed perfectly well with a shovel..

A lot of people are lazy though and now we can get sued for doing so :D

The tesco premium non clumping one is the red coloured one like big bits of sand.

As for supermarkets running out of cat litter, thats probably for the same reason they are running out of milk, UHT milk, soup, bread, tinned food, potatoes, etc etc, they are panic buying! My asda yesterday was out of all of the above, plus nearly out of cat and dog food, and I've never heard of people gritting their drive ways with cat and dog food  :rotfl:

  • People bulk-buying really annoys me. Goodness knows we could all get by quite easily if it wasn't for the fools panic-buying. It's like a self-fulfilled prophesy.

There was plenty of fresh fruit and veg, milk and bread and anything else you could think of in my local Lidl this afternoon. Cat litter too but just their clay-based one so no good for driveways and pavements. No need to panic!

Every shop and supermarket I've been to is out of cat litter. Our poor cats are having to make do with a pretty disgusting litter tray now, but there's nothing on the shelves.

    Any ideas?

There was a man on 'Today' on radio 4 yesterday Morn advising ways to clear snow and ice he suggested the gritty non clumping litters. This has probably not helped the supply of cat litter

I await all the press articles on cats pooing in gardens next

Obviously no thought from the Beeb about the environmental impact of such a suggestion - clay litter is strip mined! There's also a fair chance of adding a few thousand air miles, as 70%+ of bentonite clay is mined in the US, at least most rock salt is from the UK.

It's not ideal smell-wise but if you can't get hold of ANY form of cat litter you might try sand.

Hello peeps, just to let you know I tried the cat litter solution for ice, what a mistake. The only one I could get was the valure one from Tesco, and yes it does help reduce the chance of slipping on the ice, but the mess:eek:
As soon as it gets a wee bit damp it sticks to everyones shoes and paws and tramps in everywhere. I have spent the past few days hoovering like a mad woman in case it damages the carpets.

:rotfl:same problem here. only used it on our ramp , i could not shift the inches thick of hard ice. ( and as i am not lazy, and perfectly able to use a shovel, and fork) i tried everything to shift this ice. no joy. so threw some of our cats litter over it, now we can walk down ramp without slipping, but, car and house and shoes are an awful mess. rather that than broken bones though.
