To fit 24 square metres on laminate will cost you around £240. Depending on where in the country you live, prices can vary between £8-£12 per square metre. The £240 is what I would charge for a 6m x 4m room. Hope it helps.

I have a question re laminate floors, as was having a discussion with a friend having it done. Why is there a price difference between say "Oak Laminate" and say "Beech Laminate" Given that there is no Beech or Oak in it surely it is the same thing, and a price difference is just a con. Like charging more money for a blue car over a red one.

Totally agree, no difference in fitting charge, laminate is laminate :)
As quoted above, charges are generally around £10 per square metre fitting, with extra for door profiles/beading etc.

Do you mean there is a price difference in the fitting of the laminate or difference in the price of buying the laminate? In general, the fitting cost of laminate is the same whether you go for oak, beech, maple etc.

When you had this discussion with your friend, apart from the actual wood design, where you comparing like for like? Is the oak and beech laminate made by the same manufacturer/brand? (B&Q, Wickes, Quickstep, Pergo, Balterio, etc) Are they the same thickness? (from 6mm -12mm)

Like any other type of building jobs, ask if the fitter can show you some of their previous work.

Apologies, I have badly worded this, just didn't want to start a new thread for the sake of being nosey, and this one seemed to be answered and resolved.

The cost I was referring to was a total price for her to have a large room done in a new build flat, she was told that (can't remember exact prices, but the approximate difference sticks in my head) Oak laminate was fitted as standard as part of the deal, but they could offer Merbau at £300 and change extra, or Cherry at £700 and change extra. One would assume under the circumstances the quality would be similar, seems a bit odd that in effect you'd be saying "If you like the Oak you have to have a cheap laminate, and if you like the Cherry you have to have an expensive laminate?" I will ask her if she knows any more details when I see her again.
Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!
