help regarding shared ownership

we bought a shared ownership house 5 years ago,we own a 25% share and a housing association owns the rest,we opened our own business 2 years ago which we had to close down last year due to debt problems with the business and nearly faced bankruptcy but we where able to get a DMP, we have been on the local council and housing associatons waiting list for almost 3 years for a bigger and cheaper house,we are overcrowded as our 2 year old still sleeps in our room with us as we have no other room for him,we have now been offered a 3 bed house which we love and we want to take, but have been told it will cost us over £800 in fees alone to sell our share,we have contacted the housing association and have asked if they would be interested in buying our share back and we are waiting to hear from them ! can anyone give us any further info or advice about how we can sell or get out of this share without breaking the bank any advice would be helpful

  • How have you been able to get a local authority house when you are adequately housed in your own property(albeit a shared ownership) I thought that you could only get council/housing association if you were made homeless through repossession?

Lots of people also have to share bedrooms with their children. Has your local council got a glut of low cost housing available. Genuinely interested

Who has told you of this fee, who is charging the fee and what is the fee for - Is it a legal fee charged by solicitors for conveyancing or an admin fee that is payable to the housing association as a condition of selling, for example?
