There's a lot of scam artists out there charging a small fortune for visa and ESTA services online. A trusted industry favourite is https://www.tlcsvisas.com/tlcs/ There you will get all the advice you could need, particularly on direct applications for visas.
Hope that works for you!0 -
If you are booked with a holiday company, they will usually arrange a visa for you. I think its about £45.00 (might have gone up since 2008).

I got my visa for China direct from the Embassy in Manchester. It entailed two visits. One to drop of the application and one to collect the visa but if you do not live near Manchester or London I think you will have to use an agent.0

I used this lot by post - £82.88 all in for a single entry visa

I don't think you can apply direct any more you have to use the CVASC.

If you use another service they will charge extra on top of the CVASC fees and visa fees since they have to use it also.0
