Through help I got here, I managed to install a Linksys ADSL gateway router onto my wife's laptop (WAG54GS). The only problem is that I can only connect to my broadband via the ethernet cable. When I try to go wireless it disconnects from the web.
Everything appears to be working, the wireless switch is on, have tried the repair wireless but can't get it to work.
Can only think that I need to configure the laptop differently (Windows XP) but donn't know what!
Any advice greatly appreciated, it's driving me nuts!!

Does the internet work then drop out or does it just never work in the first place? are you definitely connected to the network wirelessly as well?
Make sure you have any firewalls such as norton or zone alarm turned off (to test if its that.. if another fix is found obviously enable them again).. your router acts as a hardware firewall to stop things getting in.. software firewalls can stop things getting out though but not essentially needed unless u have lots of secure data.. but they do interfere with networks.
Also try and update your driver..
good luck[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

Hi, yes the Internet works fine with the ethernet cable and the firewalls are switched off.
The laptop is new so I assume the drivers(?) don't need updating0 -
I meant when you are on wireless, does it work, then stop, then work, then stop.. or as soon as you connect wirelessly do you not connect?
I assume your disconnecting the ethernet cable before you try wireless?
Also do you have any WEP/WPA security enabled? try disabling that to see if thats the problem.[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

Sorry, no the Internet does not work at all without the cable, have not tried the WEP/WPA disabled, will see if that helps0
