I need an office chair that doesn't suck...

I swear, every chair I buy breaks! The one I had a university, a really nice leather one, broke in a few months when the thick metal part snapped in two!
3 months ago I bought another chair, it was comfortable and great, but today one of the plastic legs on it snapped in two...
In case you're wondering, I am a skinny IT guy :rotfl:
Going to see if they will refund or replace it although I bought it online :S
Any ideas for a replacement that is a bit more "heavy duty" (ie. one that is actually fit for a purpose)?

I got a big, squishy, leather and memory foam one from Costco. It cost me £160 but has lasted 2 years so far and saw me through the last 2 years of my degree, including the 23.5 hours a day for about 2 months (or so it seemed at the time, lol) writing my dissertation.Illegitimi non carborundum.0

I too have one from Ikea. Cannot find it on the site anymore as I have had it that long!Mags - who loves shopping0

The ones I get always turn out to be rubbish too... I guess its one area where saving money = poor product.0

I bought a chocolate leather one from ebay and within 2 days the coating was coming off the arms so I contacted the seller who told me I would have to return it at my own cost - found a rather nifty little quote from trading standards website saying that you should not be expected to pay return costs for heavy items that would require a carrier, in the event of a fault. Seller eventually agreed to arrange for a courier to collect. Have not found a suitable replacement yet and we need 2.
Everything is either faux leather, has leather arms - shan't make that mistake again, or is a horrendous price or is completley unsightly!0 -
Im currently looking for another chair too. This one was about £100 and useless after a year or so. This place makes ergonomic chairs for offices and seems a reasonable price too:

We have a bog standard swivel office type one that came from Costco about 5 years ago. It gets quite alot of abuse with two young children but has stood up to the test.
The other place to try would be John Lewis as they are very good with returns if something isn't upto standard.0 -
I too would recommend Costco. We got two basic office swivel chairs with all H&S feature and padded seats.
So far they have last over three years. I think they were around £35 inc VAT.0 -
I'd say your best bet was to go to a specalist office furniture supply company.
They tend to deal in stuff that has to take abuse day in day out rather than ones which are a fashion accessory for your home. We bought some for our office about 10 years ago and they are still going strong!
This is who we bought from - http://www.curtisofficefurniture.co.uk/prodpage.asp?ProdID=240
