Asda credit card not activated

I applied by post for an Asda credit card which arrived OK and I phoned to activate it but when I tried to use the card it would not be recognised. The customer support number on the card asks for the account number which is also not recognised. The activation line, when I phoned for a second time, said it was an Asda problem and put me through to customer support again with no luck in talking to a human. Any ideas what I should do next?
