Have I got the right system requirements?

I wonder if anyone can help me, I have had Sims 3 bought for me for Christmas and so far am unable to play it. It took hours to install, it just kept crashing and in the end I installed all the bits separately. Now I can get the game to load but in the middle of play, it just goes black and disappears and leaves me back at the desktop. Somebody on the Sims forum suggested that I may not meet the minimum system requirements after I posted my log - I wonder if someone can have a look and see if I have the right requirements.
Minimum requirements are:-
Windows XP (Service Pack 2) or Windows Vista (Service Pack 1)
CPU - Vista 2.4GHz P4 processor or equivalent
RAM - 1.5GB Ram
Hard Drive - 6.1GB of hard drive space with at least 1GB of additional space for custom content and saved games
Video - 128 MB Video card, with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
It then goes on to list loads of built in graphics cards and from what I can see, the series that relates to mine is: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator GMA 3-series and GMA 4 series.
I have managed to get a log of what is on my system and wonder if anyone could have a look and tell me whether I should be able to play this game or not. I would be eternally grateful!
Here goes: (sorry it is a bit long!)

Key things are processor, which is Ok I guess, memory and graphics. I imagine the graphics which are basic and integrated onto the motherboard will be the stumbling block. These are mininmum requiremnets as well, probably for playing on the lowest settings, so for a decent experience you might need a better processor, more memory as well as proper graphics card.0

It's better, but not lot's better. I would try the updates first and see if that helps.
With laptops, you tend to have to pay quite a lot to get a decent spec for things like gaming, and you still don't get much upgrade options - which is why desktop PC's are more used for gaming. If you are going for something new, a lot is down to personal choice (and budget), but I would look for something like a decent Core2 Duo cpu with dedicated graphics (ATI or Nvidia), and 3-4 GB ram - which will make it current for longer. Don't just dive in, there are a lot of people on here who can give good advice.0 -
I had the same problem. Bought Sims3 for my son's christmas and it cost me £250 extra as I build a pc just to play it.Payment a day challenge: £236.69
Jan Shopping Challenge: £202.09/£250

if you go here http://cyri.systemrequirementslab.com/srtest/ it will test to see if your pc can run most new games0

It then goes on to list loads of built in graphics cards and from what I can see, the series that relates to mine is: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator GMA 3-series and GMA 4 series.

The only area you don't meet the minimum requirements is in graphics. You have integrated graphics using the Intel GMA 950. The next generation on Intel graphics was the GMA X3100, then the X4500 (or now Intel HD graphics), which are the two series the requirements refer to.
Is this a desktop? You should be able to buy a better graphics card for the game quite cheaply if it is, unless it is something very slim-line.0
