send it back to retailer or contact sony as there's a problem unless either of the two devices is a particularly high powered device. (i.e. anything novelty such as lighting/fans)

sounds like there may be a problem if its just sony controllers plugged into it. i've never had that message on my PS3 ('phat' 60gb) and i use a variety of self powered and non self powered devices

have you tried any other usb devices just in case there is a problem with the controllers?

the controllers do only need to be plugged in if they need charging and not all the time. could this issue come about if two controllers are always plugged in? just a speculative idea. the chances are its a fault.
