I have been keeping my eye on Rightmove for the last few days and I saw a house I'm interested in come on to the market today. I called the EA to try and arrange a viewing for tomorrow, but he called me back to say that the vendors are going away on holiday and viewings cannot start until 25.1.09.

This seems very strange to me - why start marketing, what do you all think?

Just one of those things... you would have thought they might have left the keys with the agent tho???

Maybe it tooko ages for the hip to get sorted and the seller didn't know it would take this long before it would be on the market??

Probably the EA trying a marketing ploy. There is nothing quite so attractive as something you cannot have. So they now hope to have a string of mad buyers driven wild by desire. You get the picture. Your choice whether to play along.

EA told me that they were starting a list for viewings and could give me a time slot. I declined and said I would call if I was still interested in a couple of weeks - don't want to appear over eager (but it does look nice).

Not necessarily. It may well be that the Vendor is going away and doesn't want Tom, !!!!!! and Harry AND the agent running amok in their absence.

Do a driveby when the vendors are meant to be away. If they are there, call the agent stating you are outside the house having seen the board and that you'd love to view etc. If they're funny say it looks like someone is in and suggest you go knock on the door to them. That'll make 'em book the viewing!

Additional - could come accross slightly stalkerish if you aren't careful...

Leaving aside the usual conspiracy theories about EAs, how about the possibility that the vendors are total planks who can't organise a p*ss up in a brewery.....?
  • THE EA might be waiting for a bit to see how much interest in the property there is,then do a viewing with say 4 or 5 prospective buyers, then try to get offers in to bump the price up:rotfl:
  • If you said, sure, drop round anytime as we're not busy then you'd think something was odd an there was no interest. Pushing back a start date, asking you to make an appointment etc. are all just about driving up interest.
