Anyone used abel & cole

I had a few abel and cole boxes delivered when they had a special offer on.
With the discount I had I was pleased, but I have to say they work out quite expensive if you were to have a box every week and you do get a lot of waste.
You could try just one or two and if it's not for you just cancel.
Have you tried searching for local companies?
We now use a local organic shop and get a box delivered every other week for £10 (there are two of us)
We get a good mix of roughly 8 fruit/veg mostly good quality, all local produce and plus I feel good for supporting a local businessAddicted to MSE, I can't resist a bargain0 -
thanks will try it as good offer but maybe cancel after week 5 if not happy.
its the meat that appeal to me.
tempted to try venision but not sure we will like it.
will check out local farmshops again too.pad by xmas2010 £14,636.65/£20,000::beer:

forgot to add you can list dislikes and favourites for fruit and veg and also each week can say if dont want something thats planned to be in your box0 -
I used them for a while but got sick of kohl rabi!! I after a couple of dodgy boxes (rotten tatties and carrots - not even things that have a short shelf life!) I gave up and went back to Waitrose.Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0

I used them when they had the special offer on and the veg was good but expensive. ive got to be honest and to me veg is veg but if you want to start buying organic when i last checked they were about the same price as supermarket organic. If i had my way id buy all of mie from waitrose but we dont have one locally so i get mine from aldi.
But i have to say the meat is absolutely fantastic. ive bought organic chicken before but never an kind of red meat so when i got my free £50 credit i spent it all on meat. Today we had the rib of beef and without a shadow of a doubt it was the best meat i have EVER eaten, Out of it i made roast diner for 4, 2 more for tomorrow and ive just cut the rest up and theres enough for about 6 more meals so that will be 12 dinners, the meat was about £22 and well worth it.March 2014 Grocery challenge £250.000 -
I use Abel and cole weekly, cannot fault them. Find voucher codes regularly and have probably had over £100 free food and a cookbook.
If you got sick of Kohl rabi you could have ticked to say you didnt want it?
I have had the odd bad thing, bag of spuds and oranges, but thats what happens sometimes with organic. Just chuck them a quick email and they refund you.
Highly recommended and prefer them to Riverford0 -
I have just placed my first order with A & C for the £50 back deal. There is an easy way of excluding fruit and veg that you don't want - so did that. Why throw out veggies, surely you can make soup even if they are on the way out. Freeze in portions and so no waste!0

How do you get the cashback? can you please pm me with the info?
Many thanks.Loving the sunny days!0 -
We used them for a bit (to supplement our own veg garden), late last year and TBH the veg was okay but my wife and two boys are quite picky about what fruit and veg they will eat. The only downside we found was that although you could use the 'my preferences' section, you couldn't tick a list to say something along the lines of 'we ONLY want Broccoli, carrots, green cabbage, apples, banana's, oranges and grapes' because that's basically what the wife and kiddies will eat but although we did try to compile this list, we got uncooked beetroot, squashes and an aubergine which even I won't eat. Expensive if you don't use every last item. Oh and the oranges were naff.....0

One of the good things is that it gets you eating a wider range of veg and learning how to use things - I don't think there is any veg I couldn't use in someway
For aubergine, this is lovely topped with cheese:

or else griddled and in stacks with smoked cheese and garlic/cumin etc.
Squashes are very versatile, roasted or fried cubes in pasta/pine nuts or soups etc.
Beetroot can be grated over salads or even used in chocolate cake0
