    I've been Money Tipped!
My cousin knows because we vowed at New Year to be debt free by the end of the year and so we both had to tell how much we owed. Unfortunately she fell off the debt free wagon in March and hasnt managed to get back on! Other than that, no one, especially not my parents!

pretty much just me, and a really good friend in the same boat - i keep it to myself, which is why it's so good to chat about it here.

I told my mum and dad and OH last night. needed to get it off my chest not because i wanted them to get me out of it but I think i was looking for forgiveness for how I got into it. Not very proud of myself as a person at the moment. But things will get better.

    Think everyone knows.

As a graduate, people just expect I am. But they dont know how much.

Mum and close friend know how much and are proud of me for fighting to get rid of it. Most other people I know just let it drift and pay itself off (or not)

Oh and everyone on here. And thats good, because you all know, understand and don't judge, just support.
  • I am generally quite open about "having debt" but don't necessarity say by how much, and it's suprising if you do get into conversations with people I know about it then they are actually in exactly in the same boat. So I don't feel ashamed about it because I have faced my demons and am working hard to get out of it. The only person that doesn't know (but probably guessed anyway) is my Mum. But she must guess when I say " I can't afford something" when me & my OH should in theory be minted as we don't earn a bad wage. I haven't told her, purely because she would worry and want to pay it off probably It would be a nice easy way out I guess, but not her responsibility.

My boyfriend knows absolutely all my debt. My grandparents know a little bit and so does my mum but my dad thinks ive paid it all off!
I'm not too keen on telling him though, hes a bit judgmental.

MOst know, I'm not really hidden about it. Not many now full figures. Found out OH told ihs family, which surprised me as he always seemed so secretive about it. At least the comments as to why I'm not saving that child benefit in savings for the kids have stopped!!! :)

My mum knows full pic as she has had money issues before and is going through clearing her debt now (about £5000) and so can be sympathetic. My dad doesn't know (I didn't grow up with him and we don't really talk much) and I don't want him to know jsut in case it seems like a request for help.

I sometimes wish I hadn't told some people as they then comment on what I spend my money on (oooh are you sure you should be buying that? etc) which doesn't help really if it's thing I have budgeted for. It's like when someone asks me 'eating again??' (happened today). Sigh.

My mother went potty. "Oh my God - what will the neighbours say!" sort of thing.

Then I had the 20 questions about how we allowed this to happen (Actually Mum, I was bought up that way - you know, the mother who had to re-decorate EVERY single year during the summer, so the friends invited over once yearly at Christmas wouldn't see the same wallpaper and other similar tales).

Then for weeks later, I got phone calls at all times with here in tears about how much the debt was effecting her and she was on anti-depression tablets. (Very dramatic is my Mum!)

I had even lied to her and said we only owed about £20k - in reality - thats half!

I haven't had the guts to tell her we are going bankrupt!
