aldi 250gb hard drive

How can you tell if your computer is compatible, ie:

i have been looking around my computer and

mb system model vt78363
bios version 6.00
processor 1100mhz
hdd 10g
windows xp pro
memory 128mb


would the 250gb hdd be alright for my computer

    Your machine will be compatible with this Drive, as all Hard Drives fitted to Desktop PC's in recent years are standard 3.5" drives. Providing you have physical room and power connectors for this additional drive in your case there should be no problems.

    Not neccesarily, Depends if the BIOS supports drives >137Gb.

    Couldn't find anything on the motherboard.

    Try using Belarc Advisor or Sisoft Sandra to give us some more details.

    May be wrong on this but I thought XP post SP2 (or was it SP1) provides 48 bit LBA support and will override the 137Gig 28 bit LBA in the Bios.

    I know when I bought a 200 Gig I thought I might have to flash but the OS picked it up fine.

    Certainly worth trying before risking a bad bios flash.

    Of course the other incompatibility is SATA v PATA.

    blinky what details do you need as i am not that techie on computer have downloaded belarc advisior, what should i be looking for

    If the BIOS won't recognise the correct the full size then Windows won't be able to access the full HD either. (Hence why retail drives are often bundled with horrible overlay software).

    The drive ALDI are advertising is PATA, so that would be fine.
