I agree with the last comment. It may have been a simple mistake. My wife's car looks black. It is in fact purple on the log book.

Yes I agree about the lighting can make the colour of the car seem a different colour but, an error is an error. Why would you pay for a fine that has most (not ALL) of your details correct? If this was the case then anybody such as police officers, traffic wardens etc.. can make up nearly all of your details and get away with it (earning themselves lots of money-traffic wardens in particular) for a similar situation. Here is another example, imagine you take your passport on holiday with you. The only mistake is the gender, say you are a female but it only came back as male, even though you filled in all the forms correctly. You try to check-in with this passport. Do you think that you would be allowed to check in? I don't think so!

I would suggest the OP seek legal advice (such as a solicitor or ask at the CAB) as what to do next.

I dont think anyone suggested paying the fine because it could have been a simple mistake, merely pointing out how an error with the colour occurred.

That does not get over the fact that the wrong make of car was put and in my opinion that is a far more questionnable error and one which should support an appeal against the fine, should one be justified but on this occasion the OP has admitted he deserved the ticket so should do the honourable thing and pay it.

don't know how long this site has been going for but I got a message about it from a friend yesterday, seems like a good idea to avoid parking fines in the future, www.fcukfines.com - Anyone else registered on it already?

What a scam! There would have to be millions of registered users for this to work, plus mobile signal and people actually bothered. Someone will make a fortune in overpriced texts and for what?

Just don't park in the wrong place!

hi, N9eav - I joined this website in the end (https://www.fcukfines.com) - it seems genuine enough. It could be a scam but I haven't received any unwarranted texts just yet! I'll keep you posted tho! To be honest I think it's a genuine attempt - I heard something on Reading 107 radio earlier today about it, sounds like some people that are trying to do something about it because they were fed up with parking fines. They let you deactivate the texts on their website anyway so it doesn't look like it's a complete scam. IMHO of course.

Yes it's probably a genuine idea. But I still maintain that you don't get fined if you park legally.
I mean take last night, I know you wern't there but in my town, there is a zebra crossing outside the kebab shop. Now is it worth parking on the crossing to get a kebab? £60 fine and 3 penalty points. NO it's not, No kebab is that good!
So the guy gets a text saying the cops are coming with their ticket book..... too late he gets a ticket anyway and pays the text fee.

yeah I saw that noparkingtickets site too - I was just a bit put off by that one because of the hard sell and the joining fee. I guess they're offering the same deal but since fcukfines one seems quite a flexible service - they let you deactivate alerts on an account page on the site, and give you discounts if you get feedback yourself, it seems the better.

I guess the one with the most customers watching out for other customers will be the best ultimately.

How can this work? You pay out money to them, but in return you expect someone to care enough about your car (a stranger) while going about their business? Then there's the question of how many members are there and what is the chance that one of them happens to be there and can be bothered texting you. Sounds like a scam to me.

Imagine this: You witnessed a car that was involved in a hit and run. You gave the police the description of the car, i.e. colour and make (a Gold Renault Clio and the car reg), when in fact it was a Silver Vauxhall. The police will be on the lookout for the Gold Clio whilst the Silver Vauxhall is speeding around and possibly out of the area. The Result: a waste of polices' time and effort. Thankfully and fortunately for advancement in technology, the police should be able to get an instant record check from the dvla to see who the owner of the description you supplied. Once they have the correct details they can put this out to the patrol cars and some of the Traffic cops which will be able to check the registation plates of every car passing by from their onboard computer and hopefully stop the correct driver, when the system alerts the officer(s). :T
Correction, İ used to work in a very busy Met police control room and handled these sort of things, we would verify the ındex thru the PNC and circulate dets (as per the pnc) via radio,(if time permitted call ınf back and verify) the amount of times that we had reports from petrol stations where people had filled up and driven off, they would say its a blue merc, pnc check revealed that veh as a white polo, so did the cctv.
