    Sorry car £234.00 per month.

The problem is bloody bank charges, (I was about to start reclaim proceedings but as I owe the bank so much money I'm a bit scared in case they close my account, owe me over £2,000 in charges!!) late payments and not getting my pay cheque regularly. Plus the taxman is not going to keep on waiting, oh and I forgot whopper - school fees £750 per month - one more year until she leaves, can't move her now.

I have tried uswitch and it was a bit of a con - changed supplier after quoting some miraculous figure but the reality is it isn't enough to cover our usage and they put the direct debit up! Sky I can reduce to basic package. I will find out the Egg apr. There are 5 of us to eat.

My advice for you at this stage is rather simple, but can you literally STOP spending. ie. let whatevers coming into your account come in and go out but draw no money out for anything ( maybe apart from petrol) and thats that for a week, go through your cupbards & eat up whats there, and give no money to anyone.

It will just give your account a few days to settle down and then you can see wahts what. Do you do online banking. Can you see where the money is going? I dont want to sound harsh here, I really dont mean to but 2k s worth of charges isnt a great deal in the grand scheme of things, it will make your OD 9k, not 11, and thus I would suggest caution re your bank charges right now.

Have you spoken to the IR about your tax bill- whens it outstanding since?

January, as I explained at the beginning of the original post, I am self employed and through a change in where my work comes from my income has halved, I already had quite large committments but the failure of the larger cheque each month has been catastrophic and I have been hopeless....
  • Hi Bleakhouse,

Well done for posting, you are taking the first few positive steps in the right direction i.e assessing your current situation in detail.

Is that your income after tax ?

i.e Do you receive £3500 +after tax each month ?

I gather from your last post that you are still owed money?

When you mean you are self employed, are you self employed and work soley for a company or do you have lots of clients?

What have you done so far to re-coup the money? What would happen if you got tough (threatened legal action??)

No, you misunderstand, or I have explained badly, I am self employed but do almost all my work for one company (now) the amount of work offered to me has halved, plus my daily rate has actually been talked down. As I rely almost entirely on said company and , as I have no formal contract I cannot afford to kick off in case the work dries up completely. I am in talks elsewhere to try and become employed again rather than self employed. It has been so bad of late that i have not been able to afford the everyday costs of travelling down to london to see clients.

    Hi Bleakhouse,

Maybe amend the income on the SOA to after tax income (so people can see what you actually have coming in each month).
