Also, are you on paid suspension?0

That really sucks Daniel, can you get a good reference from a work colleague, hopefully you will find getting another job easier with the redundancy rather than having to admit that you were dismissed.
...Linda xxIt's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0 -
ok, who else did your type of job?
did they tell you they were considering redundancies?
was anyone else at risk?
even in a small company they need to follow procedure with regards to redundanciesNonny mouse and Proud!!
Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience!!

I am on paid suspension, i don't have to return to work but they are still paying me til the 18th.
I went straight down the job centre and surprise surprise there was a job vacancy from the employer in the job centre system. I left the company at 1:35pm and i noticed the job at 4:30pm.
Unfortunately though i haven't got a leg to stand on as i have spoken to ACAS and the CAB and they told me because i haven't been there for more than 12 months i have no rights.
So there we have it, another large company doesn't get its own way and bulldozes its way out of trouble.
I am so gutted.
Thanks to all of you for your best wishes regarding getting another job, i really appreciate them.0 -
what about the missing laptop?

employers only have to have a reasonable belief not full blown proof in oder to dismiss. A tribunal will look at whether he employer carried out a fair process in dismissing an employer and wheher hey followed their own process in doing so.
Never ever work with out a written contract of employment for longer than a month. Also, if you have been employed by them for less than 12 months you legally have no recourse in a Tribunal for unfair dismissal.
start preparing your defence and focus on any others who had access to the laptop.0 -
I was called in to work this afternoon and given a letter, it said:
Dear Daniel,
Due to the financial climate and the stores decline in sales, it is with regret, that we have made the decision to make your position at the Internet store redundant.

Bloody hell. Chin up, you'll find something else. Make sure they're willing to provide you with a good reference, if possible :-/£1 / 50p 2011 holiday flight + hotel expenses = £98.50/£600
HSBC 8% 12mth regular savings = £80 out of a maximum remaining allowance of £2500
"3 months' salary" reserve = £00 / £3600 :eek:0 -
So there we have it, another large company doesn't get its own way and bulldozes its way out of trouble.
That just about sums it up, really sorry for you. Any way they could, they were going to give you the can by the sounds of it, but to get you caught up in a theft accusation is just awful. Agree with wontfallforit; make sure they will provide you with a good reference. They've noted the reason for redundancy is decline in sales; if they're going to mention the laptop incident to any prospective employers (though they shouldn't) it'll mess up your chances of another job.
Myself, if I managed to get another job sharpish I'd then probably send an application for the vacancy you noticed in the job centre back to them and attach a little post-it with something like "I notice that sales must have picked up in the three hours since I was dismissed because I found this at the job centre - I look forward to hearing from you!!" Obviously I wouldn't expect to, but I'd have made a point. A bit childish yes, but that's just meBest of luck in finding a better job OP.
Do good deeds and you could raise the curtain, do good deeds and you could really raise your life....0 -
Presumably since the police were involved, that investigation is ongoing, and since the OP has nothing to hide, he should ask them what the situation is-is the employer still alleging theft?
If the police feel there is no evidence, then on what basis is the OP still suspended?
Regarding the redundancy notice, you cannot make a position redundant and then advertise the same job hours later!
The OP needs to seek legal advice on this.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
