Worries

Hi All,
Just joined the DFW forum after reading through Moozies messages and being inspired.
Sorry if this is stating the bl**ding obvious, but does anyone have any tips to get out of the habit of worrying from the minute they wake up. It almost seems like my subconcious says "Hello, he's awake. Time to start worrying about whats in the bank, or not as the case is, how is he going to pay everyone, there's no hope etc etc"
I find myself having what I would describe as small panic attacks, insofar as my heartbeat starts racing for no reason. These happen especially when I have to go into the Bank account.
Having read theough some of the posts, my situaltion is better than some, but worse than others, but I cannot seem to stop thinking about it. The worrying wears off a bit as the day goes on, but first thing in the morning I can't stop it.
Help please...
Thanks
Tim (Alty Blue)

I find having actions planned helps.

hello tim,
Welcome to DFW. I find being here and taking control a way of getting out of the worry.
Have you had a look at Southern scousers first time posters thread. If you look at an SOA, we can hopefully find you some savings to keep the wolf from the door
Lots of luck,

It sounds a bit on the kooky-new-agy side, but I've found I feel much better about facing the day if I get up ten minutes early and do a bit of Yoga. I'm not sure its so much the yoga, but doing something you enjoy that is nothing to do with money the minute you get up stops debt and money being the first thing you think about as you open your eyes, which sets you up in a much better state of mind for the day. I still worry obviously, but not doing it first thing makes a real difference because I get out of the feeling that morning to night is just one big worry. If yoga's not your thing you could try going on a walk, doing some weights, or maybe just reading a chapter of a good book. Anything that gets you to a place where money (albeit temporarily)isn't important.
Hope this helps

Tim, I know from experience that a lot of the worry comes from that out of control feeling. I'm glad to hear you're situation is not as bad as some - however it's obviously a big deal to you. What are you doing to repay your debts? To quote from a different subject 'size doesn't matter, it's what you do with it that does'. In other words if the debt is quite small but the repayments are large you can be struggling just as much as someone owing 3 times more. There are 2 bits of advice we normally give for starters:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=107280
This will give you advice on how to compile a statement of affairs, which will help us to help you. The second is
http://www.whatsthecost.com/snowball.aspx
This will prioritise your debts and tell you when they'll be paid off, scary, but at least it will give you back an element of control. And this will be the worst case scenario because we'll help you bring it forward - and having atarget to aim for again will give you something to focus on.
Good luck, and welcome!A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Also don't underestimate what your mind is trying to tell you... please go see the doctor and explain your situation because it looks to me like you might be needing just a teeny bit of professional advice to makesure you don't fall into a full on depression... A stitch in time...

Hi Alty.To echo what others have said, I find that making a bit of effort to put myself in control of the situation really helps. This site has been a godsend for that, and shouldn't be underestimated. I get a lot of random anxiety after suffering from post traumatic stress disorder five years ago, and I sometimes take valerian - a herbal extract that helps curb anxiety. Try visiting your pharmacist or health food shop and seeing what thay can recommend. - like Tine has said, A visit to the GP can't do any harm either.Official Debt Free Wannabe Nerd Club member 095! Agree with others here. Sort out a plan of action to tackle these problems so that you become in control of your debts rather than feeling they control you. I mentioned in a previous post that a huge debt seems a lot more manageable once you've faced up to it & decided how to challenge it even though the amounts owed are initially the same. I used to have many a sleepless night years ago, but now my DMP is well & truly rolling I actually look forward to opening statements whereas before I'd probably bury it in the sand along with my head!Donedoingdebt Lightbulb moment January 2000.
