Wireless problem

I have a laptop that connects wirelessly to a netgear router and I have had no problems, however, recently I can only get a connection if the laptop is just a yard or two away from the router.

I have tried changing the wireless channel on the laptop, but this makes no difference.

I really miss using the laptop downstairs (the main pc is upstairs).

Any suggestions for rectifying would be gratefully received.

your wireless card should come with an integrated tool that will tell u what the signal quality and strength is - what are these readings!?

there could be loads of reasons why u cant get signal - so need some more details about your setup

    Which router?

Try upgrading the firmware, from the netgear site.

and changing channels on the router, rather than the PC.

Use netstumbler to find out what channels other people are using.

    http://www.netstumbler.com/downloads/

If you have video senders, they may be interfering.

    Are you using encryption?
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

This may sound very silly but I tried to adjust the router software on the main PC, but I can't find it.

I searched everywhere for the netgear programme/driver, I know netgear support talked me through the initial setup using the main PC, so where did it go?

    Cheers for you replies
