Hi I have just applied for my 1st credit card with Sainsburys. I have good credit score and no other debt other than mortgage. I was turned down because I don't have a home phone number. Now I'm cross because she could have said that before running the credit check and getting me turned down. Would I be able to put my mum and dads home number down? Also now I'm worried about applying for others in case I get turned down for same reason (because getting turned down gives you bad credit score doesn't it?)
Thanks
                Thanks

You were turned down because you failed their credit score. A telephone number is only part of the overall scoring process.Hi I have just applied for my 1st credit card with Sainsburys. It's possible to pass a credit score without having a landline. Now I'm cross because she could have said that before running the credit check and getting me turned down.
If staff tell you how to beat the credit score prior to applying, it rather undermines the underwriting systems.
No. That would be fraudulent.Would I be able to put my mum and dads home number down?
Being declined does not impact your credit score. Excessive credit searches could though. Also now I'm worried about applying for others in case I get turned down for same reason (because getting turned down gives you bad credit score doesn't it?)
Back in the 1990s some arrears research I saw suggested that although only about 5% of those given unsecured credit had no landline, this subset accounted for over 50% of accounts in arrears.
I've no idea how reasonable that is in this age of the mobile, but historically and statstically having a landline meant you were more likely to repay your debts.0
